This semester I have definitely improved as a guitarist. The guys that I work with have given me a lot more confidence when playing in front of people. Aside from playing music, I didn’t reach my SMART goal. My goal was to make a YouTube channel and get videos published to YouTube in my old band, A5. I ended up getting kicked out of that band, so I joined the guys. We don’t have a name yet, but I think we’re leaning towards MeatLuk. Anyways I wasn’t able to make a YouTube channel, because I’m not even part of that band. Looking back, if I even would have made a channel, my goal of even getting a couple of views was unrealistic, because no one wants to watch that. The highlight of this semester for me was performing with the band at the celebration of learning. We worked so hard to get Jacob’s Ladder ready for the show, but then got carried away, because we remembered that we needed two other songs ready. This was a week before the performance, so we ended up playing Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughan, and making a heavy metal cover of Carol of The Bells. Somehow we actually pulled it off, which I’m really proud of. This semester I have learned that I’m a really fast learner. I learned those last two songs within a couple of days of the performance. I have also learned that I’m a lot better at being a rhythm guitarist, rather than being a soloist, because of the level that everyone else is in the band. It was definitely challenging trying to prepare our songs for the show, because we were nowhere near ready for the show, but I think that the pressure of having to do a good job really made us actually do well. Another challenge has been trying to get along with everyone in the band. I think that because we were all stressed out for the celebration of learning, we all just needed a break from each other. When we came back from winter break, all of us didn’t have any stress, so now we’re all best friends now. My goal for next semester is to know all of our songs at least a week before the performance, so we’re not last-minute panicking because that was just too much. I’m also hoping that we can make an original song to play at the next show.

The reason why I didn't complete my first blog post on time was because I honestly don't know how to use Weebly or how to make blog posts, so I accidentally posted to the wrong place. Now I'm getting the hang of using this site, so in the future my work should be finished on time. I should also get into the habit of not procrastinating, because that's what's getting me the bad marks.
I have started working towards my academy goal just yesterday. I made our band's YouTube account. Right now I haven't made any videos for YouTube, but I do think that by January we will post our covers to the three songs that were playing for the celebration of learning. Also in the next week I'm going to shout out our channel on my Instagram account. My personal goal is going okay. I have started playing, and practicing in front of other people. I have also gotten a little more confident. I really do think that by January I'm going to not care about what people think of me while I'm playing guitar. I really do think that my SMART Goal is actually smart because my goals don't seem that hard to achieve right now. I am committed to making them happen because using YouTube is a lot of fun, and playing in front of people is slowly getting easier and easier. I think that there's enough detail in my SMART Goals, because I'm already on the way to achieving these goals. It isn't hard to measure my success, because last week I didn't have a YouTube channel, and I wasn't confident at all. Now I do have a channel, and I'm a little bit more confident than I was before. I think that my band and I could practice a little bit more than what we have. We could also get together and at least make a practice video for another one of our assignments, because they haven't even brought their instruments to school. That's my only regret. Academy Goal:
One goal that I have for the first semester of music academy is to learn how to use YouTube. This January I want to know how to edit our music videos, and how to make actual recordings of the songs that we're going to make covers for. This can be measured by getting views and subscribers, because the better of a job that your doing, the more views and subscribers you get. We'll make music videos and record our covers of the songs that we're playing. We can also shout the channel out on all of our accounts of social media. All of this is relevant to music academy because one of our assignments is to actually make a YouTube channel. It is timely because usually when you start off on any social media it's either going to grow slowly, because you're trying to find new people, or it can grow fast, because everyone you already know will watch your videos and subscribe. Personal Goal: My personal goal for this semester is to become more confident with playing guitar in front of people, because I get nervous too easily when it comes to soloing in front of a group, especially when I'm not the best. If I do achieve this goal I'll be able to play better in front of a group, without low-key panicking. A way I could get to that point, is to play out loud in front of people often wether I like it of not. It's relevant because being in a band, I'm going to have to play in front of people live. Usually when I do something for long enough I can gain confidence easily and fast, because It's how I work. |
